Sacred stoneware · From the studio

I just finished throwing a new collection, and the pieces are now set out to dry in preparation for their bisque firing. This collection will include Church Slavonic and Russian inscriptions, the IC XC NIKA cross, and a Pascha plate.

DOM VECHERA sacred greenware: a hand-held IC XC NIKA cross slab, sculptural candleholder, and inscribed vessel on a studio table with Orthodox icons behind them.

CLAY & FIRE

I plan to let these pieces air dry for about three weeks before the bisque firing. After that, I will glaze them and return them to the kiln for their final firing. If all goes as planned, the finished works should be ready in about four weeks.

The photograph shows just a few of the pieces in greenware, their unfired state, as they dry.

PREPARING FOR THE FEASTS

The next collection I throw will focus on Nativity and Pascha.

Handmade stoneware takes time from start to finish, so I want to begin now and have a thoughtful selection of works ready for these holy feasts.

For now, these pieces need time to dry. I look forward to sharing them once they have passed through the fire.
