THE WORK
SACRED SERVING VESSEL No. 12 is a one-of-a-kind Christian stoneware serving vessel, individually formed by hand and inscribed in ancient Greek with the words of the Psalmist:
“Taste and see that the Lord is good.”
Its broad, open silhouette recalls early ceramic vessels, while its pale Alabaster finish evokes aged limestone, weathered plaster, and the restrained material character of ancient Christian objects.
The Greek inscription encircles the exterior, becoming an integral part of the form rather than an ornament applied to its surface.
Inspired by Scripture and the liturgical tradition of the Orthodox Church, the vessel brings the language of faith into the Christian home and the ordinary act of gathering around the table.
It belongs to THE SACRED, the DOM VECHERA collection of handmade Christian stoneware inspired by ancient Christianity, prayer, and devotion.
THE INSCRIPTION
Γεύσασθε καὶ ἴδετε ὅτι χρηστὸς ὁ Κύριος
“Taste and see that the Lord is good.”

These words from the Psalter invite the faithful to experience the goodness of God.
They hold particular significance within Orthodox Christian worship, where the language of the Psalms remains central to prayer and liturgical life.
Here, the verse is carved directly into the clay, following the vessel's exterior and joining sacred inscription with an object traditionally associated with nourishment and hospitality.
The darkened lettering remains embedded within the stoneware, becoming an enduring part of the work.
SURFACE & FORM
The vessel is finished in Alabaster, creating a pale ivory surface reminiscent of aged limestone and ancient plaster.
A restrained iron wash has been applied and selectively drawn back, leaving traces of warmth within the carved Greek lettering and natural irregularities of the clay.
The broad opening and softly rounded body create a substantial yet understated silhouette.
Its individually formed profile retains subtle asymmetry, while variations in carving, glaze, and firing remain visible throughout the work.
No two surfaces, inscriptions, or silhouettes are identical. Every variation belongs to this individual vessel.
