THE WORK
SACRED WORK No. DV-2026-10 is a one-of-a-kind Christian pottery cup, individually formed in high-fired stoneware and hand-inscribed with the ancient Greek Christogram IC XC NIKA — Jesus Christ Conquers.
Created in April 2026, this early work by the founder of DOM VECHERA is distinguished by an unusually substantial architectural wedge handle.
Rather than following the curved silhouette of a conventional cup handle, the geometric extension projects from the vessel as a sculptural mass, giving the small form an unexpected sense of weight and architectural presence.
Its pale, mineral-toned surface recalls weathered stone and ancient Christian objects. The carved inscription, slight asymmetry, and visible traces of the hand remain deliberately preserved.

THE INSCRIPTION
IC XC NIKA
Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς Νικᾷ
“Jesus Christ Conquers.”
IC XC is the traditional Greek Christogram representing the name of Jesus Christ, while NIKA means “conquers” or “is victorious.”
Together, the inscription proclaims Christ's victory.
This ancient Christian symbol appears throughout Orthodox visual tradition, including icons, crosses, liturgical objects, seals, and ecclesiastical architecture.
Each letter is carved directly into the stoneware, becoming an enduring part of the vessel rather than an ornament applied to its surface.
SURFACE & FORM
The vessel is defined by its hand-formed architectural wedge handle, a substantial geometric extension that gives the miniature cup its distinctive silhouette.
The exterior is finished in Tan Tweed, creating a pale matte surface reminiscent of aged mineral deposits and weathered stone.
A clear-glazed interior provides a restrained contrast to the textured exterior.
Variations in profile, carving, surface, and firing remain visible throughout the work.
As an early piece in the founder's practice, the vessel retains evidence of its individual making, including a hand-finished foot, subtle asymmetry, and natural irregularities.
