THE WORK
SACRED VESSEL No. 03 is a one-of-a-kind Christian pottery vessel, individually formed in stoneware and hand-inscribed with the Greek words Δόξα τῷ Θεῷ — Glory to God.
Its compact, rounded silhouette recalls ancient ceramic vessels and fragments of early Christian material culture. Layers of mineral-toned glaze and iron wash create a weathered, fresco-like surface, while the carved Greek lettering, exposed brushwork, and irregularities of the clay remain deliberately visible.
Created for the Christian home, the work is a sculptural expression of Orthodox Christian faith and praise.
It belongs to THE SACRED, the DOM VECHERA collection of handmade Christian stoneware inspired by ancient Christianity, prayer, and devotion.
THE INSCRIPTION
Δόξα τῷ Θεῷ
Dóxa tō Theō
“Glory to God.”
A timeless expression of Christian thanksgiving and praise, these words belong to the worship and devotional life of the Orthodox Church.
The Greek inscription is carved directly into the clay, becoming an enduring part of the vessel rather than a decoration applied to its surface.
Its simplicity gives the work its meaning: a declaration of praise preserved in fired stone.
SURFACE & FORM
The softly swelling profile draws upon the proportions of ancient ceramic vessels while retaining the irregularity of a form created individually by hand.
Successive layers of Alabaster, Black Walnut, mineral-toned glazes, and iron wash produce a weathered exterior reminiscent of aged plaster and fragmented Christian frescoes.
Areas of brushwork, glaze movement, and hand-carved lettering remain visible throughout the surface.
The darker mineral interior provides a restrained contrast, giving the small vessel a sense of depth and architectural presence.
No two surfaces, inscriptions, or silhouettes are identical. Every variation belongs to this individual work.
