THE WORK
SACRED ESPRESSO CUP No. 07 is a one-of-a-kind Christian pottery cup, individually formed in stoneware and hand-inscribed with the Arabic words مُبَارَكٌ الآتِي بِاسْمِ الرَّبِّ — Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.
Its compact, earthen form recalls the simplicity of ancient ceramic drinking vessels. A warm matte exterior provides a restrained surface for the deeply carved Arabic lettering, while the pale glazed interior introduces a quiet contrast.
The inscription originates in the Psalms and appears in the Gospel accounts of Christ's Entrance into Jerusalem, commemorated by the Orthodox Church on Palm Sunday.
Here, an ancient proclamation of Christian praise becomes part of an object intended for everyday use.

THE INSCRIPTION
مُبَارَكٌ الآتِي بِاسْمِ الرَّبِّ
Mubārakun al-ātī bi-ismi al-Rabb
“Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”
The proclamation appears in Psalm 117 (118) and in the Gospel accounts of Christ's triumphal Entrance into Jerusalem.
It remains an enduring expression of Christian praise within the liturgical life of the Orthodox Church.
Rendered in Arabic, the inscription also reflects the ancient and continuing traditions of Arabic-speaking Orthodox Christians.
Each letter is carved directly into the clay, becoming a permanent part of the cup rather than an ornament applied to its surface.
SURFACE & FORM
The exterior carries a warm, matte mineral finish with subtle variations in tone, recalling weathered earth and ancient ceramic surfaces.
The hand-carved Arabic inscription follows the compact curvature of the cup, retaining the visible character of work formed and inscribed individually by hand.
The interior is finished in Alabaster / Honey Flux, introducing a lighter glazed surface within the vessel.
Its miniature proportions are suited to espresso and other small coffee servings, provided the finished food-contact glaze is confirmed suitable for that use.
No two surfaces, inscriptions, or silhouettes are identical. Every variation belongs to this individual work.
